What is Kybella®?

Kybella® contains deoxycholic acid, a fat-dissolving, naturally occurring bile acid. It is injected in the office and it is FDA approved to treat fat under the chin.

Kybella® treatment involves multiple tiny injections. Treatment can be slightly uncomfortable, so topical anesthetic cream is applied prior, with occlusion and speedy injection techniques are used. Pain subsides in 3-5 minutes. The next day, the area may be slightly red or swollen. By the second day, redness should be gone, but tissues remain firm and tender.

For fat under the chin, most people need a minimum of 2 -3 treatments to see significant changes.  We usually suggest 2 treatments and then reassessing to see more treatment will be necessary. Some patients may only need one treatment to obtain their optimal goals. It takes about 4 - 6 weeks to see results, and treatments are scheduled at least 4 weeks apart.
