6 Tips to Maintain Acne Free Skin
Having a nasty zit can be quite annoying. In fact, it is often a contributing factor to people who suffer from low self esteem and self confidence. Right or wrong, many people judge others by their physical appearance. In the era of selfies, this often means the face is the first thing we see.
Preventing an acne breakout is no easy feat, even as an adult. This is why, even if you know everything about acne control, acne still seems to show up every now and then. Busy adults often lack the time to maintain acne free skin until they experience a breakout. However, there are steps you can take to minimize a breakout right from the start.
6 Tips to Maintain Acne Free Skin
1. Keep your hands away from your face.
Even when your hands are clean, they can still carry undesirable microorganisms that can cause acne. If you have a bump or pimple of any sort, do not prick the affected area. Touching it with bare hands can cause further irritation. So it is rather safe to keep your hands or any other object from your face to impede the inflammation of the acne and scarring of the skin as well.
2. Avoid getting anything that might contain microorganisms to touch your face.
These include your hands, hair, tissues, old sponges, towels, pillows, and the biggest culprit of them all, cellphones. The only way to control the transfer of dirt and organisms to your face from the material of origin is to change your bed linens regularly, and use a clean towel each time you wipe your face.
3. Keep your cellphone away from your face.
If you can avoid putting your phone to your face, and use headphones or your speakerphone, all the better. Be sure to clean your phone screen daily. Note, wiping your screen with your hand or your pants is not cleaning your screen.
4. Avoid using oil-based products on your hair.
Guys and girls wear hair products to improve their appearance. While these products may be safe for your scalp, they can wreak havoc on your face. These chemical-laden beauty products slide down to your face as you sweat. Then the chemicals further aggravate the already affected area of your skin. If your skin gets aggravated, using a hair band (or wearing an updo) will help keep your hair in place and away from your face.
5. Minimize the use of cosmetics over a pimple.
Although beauty products can conceal your pimple break out, they can also increase the risk of infection. The combination of the harsh compounds in your makeup foundation and bacteria that come with the sponge (if the foundation you are using is not newly opened) exacerbate the acne.
When shopping for skin care and hair care products, read the labels. Your products should include the following terms: non-comedogenic, oil-free and won’t clog pores.
6. Change your skin care routine.
If you are using an alcohol-based and oil-based facial wash or toner, taking a break will sometimes minimize the inflammation of the skin.
